Ward's® Live Escherichia coli, Lactose Negative Culture

Isolated from human intestine, this organism is known for its distinctive putrefactive odor.

Isolated from human nasopharynx. Presumably not related to N. sicca; some relation to N. gonorrhoeae. Often agglutinates in saline. 

Colorless, most widely dispersed of the Serratia species. 

From soil and water rich in minerals. Organism of putrefaction.

Nitrogen fixation, produces nodules on legume roots. Bacteroids from nodules can be X, Y, and club shapes.

All microbial cultures undergo an extensive quality control program prior to releasing for sale, so they are guaranteed for purity as well as for species.

Found in seawater and marine animals. Young cultures luminescent.

Capsules produced in milk. Psychrophilic (prefers low temperatures), produces yellow pigments. 

This organism is commonly isolated from sewage, water, soil and dairy products, as it is a normal part of intestinal flora.

Found in fresh water. Chromogenesis; blue to purple pigments produced. Motile. Rods. Gram negative reaction. Aerobic. Incubation temperature 30°C. Blood agar growth medium. Note: Pathogen.

Frequent human isolate. Causes gastroenteritis.

E. coli with JM101 can be transformed with pUC8 plasmid to become resistant to Ampicillin and to metabolize lactose

Red-pigmented halophile from evaporating salt ponds; requires 25% salt medium, lyses easily in plain water, releasing DNA.

Noted for capsular swelling. Causes pneumonia and urinary tract infections.
