Students learn the techniques of mineral identification by following the instructions for testing the “unknown” specimens in the collection. Specially selected specimens clearly illustrate hardness, cleavage/fracture, tenacity, and streak.
The set is housed in a compartmented collection box, and a comprehensive study guide and identification list is included.
Contents: 22 unnumbered samples, 1×1"; streak plateMinerals:
Hardness: apatite, calcite, fluorite, microcline, quartz, selenite, talc
Clevage/Fracture: calcite, feldspar, halite, mica, quartz (obsidian), serpentine
Tenacity: copper, mica, selenite, sulfur.
Streak: graphite, hematite, magnetite, pyrite, talc.
