Students determine which of four possible donors could safely donate blood to a patient. They also develop a case history of a mother and her children to determine the safety of her pregnancy. In the process, students employ the framework standards of Structures and Properties (LS1) and Heredity (LS3) to identify antigen and antibody reactions, how those reactions affect the body's immune response, and the basics of ABO and Rh blood typing.
This kit is aligned with all published National Standards. Pre and post-laboratory assessments and vocabulary words target specific Science and Engineering Practices and Common Core standards. The teacher's guide contains specific "Did You Know" concepts that link the real world with the scientific standards explored. The kit contains a student copymaster and material for 10 setups.
