Snakes are common reptiles used in dissection and to teach, among other things, vertebrate anatomy and comparative physiology. Students can explore the many vertebrae along their body in comparison to humans, who have just 32 vertebrae. Many snakes are camouflaged by color and pattern to blend into their surroundings and mimic their natural habitat. Garter snakes or other common non-poisonous species are supplied.
