PCR Based Alu-Human DNA Typing Kit

Using their own hair or cheek cells as sources of DNA, students will isolate human DNA and compare DNA polymorphisms between individuals.

Students use primers for a 300 base pair Alu insertion in chromosome 16 (PV92) to determine their own genotype.

Includes materials for 25 PCR reactions and instructions. A thermal cycler, electrophoresis tank, power supply, variable micropipet and tips, UV transilluminator, balance, and microwave or hot plate are required, but not included.
