Bring Fireworks into Your Lab

  • Identify metals by color

Students investigate the ancient Chinese discovery of what happens when a substance containing a metal is heated to high temperatures. While the Chinese used this knowledge to manufacture colorful fireworks, your students will discover through flame test observations how we can identify the presence of certain metals in various salt compounds. This lab includes seven different metal salts, nichrome wire test loops, and instructions with student copymaster.
