Determination of Protein Molecular Weight Kit

Subunit molecular weights are determined by analysis using denaturing SDS vertical polyacrylamide electrophoresis (PAGE) and the included prestained, ready to load lyophilized proteins. Prestained proteins with unknown molecular weights are assigned molecular weights based on the relative mobility of prestained standard protein markers.

Students can complete staining and destaining in about 2.5 hours and finish the activity in 60 minutes. Kit includes material for six student groups, working with two groups per gel.

Instructions, denatured ready to load protein samples, gel loading solution, electrophoresis buffer, protein staining solutions are all supplied. Three 12% polyacrylamide gels, vertical gel electrophoresis chamber, power supply, hot plate or burner, white light transilluminator, adjustable volume micropipette, microtube rack, glassware, methanol, acetic acid, and distilled or deionized water, all required, are available separately.
