Zener diodes are a unique electrical component that allows the current to flow in a “reverse direction”. A diode only allows a current to flow in one direction and prevents an electrical charge being reversed. A Zener diode does allow the current flow to be reversed, but only once the voltage equals the specific voltage rating.
