Edvotek Diagnosing Huntington's Using PCR

In this experiment, students will conduct a DNA fingerprinting exercise on simulated patient samples to determine if family members are heterozygous or homozygous for Huntington's Disease. Students will then analyze the amplified DNA segments by agarose gel electrophoresis.

Additional items needed but not included: Thermal cycler, horizontal gel electrophoresis equipment, microcentrifuge, Light box (UV or White-light), micropipettes and tips, microwave or hot plate, 250 ml flasks or beakers, hot gloves, and disposable lab gloves.
