Acoustics – Wavelength and Velocity of Sound

Students use this experiment to determine the velocity of sound as a function of temperature.

The experiment measures the velocity of sound in the air as a function of the temperature, θ, and compares it with the linear function resulting from the temperature-dependency of pressure and density.

The value c(0) is determined using a best-fit straight line, and the literature values p(0) and ρ(0) are used to determine the adiabatic coefficient, κ, of air.
