Though a highly controversial area of biotechnology, genetic modification of plants is an ever growing area of research. These experiments all begin by establishing plant cells in culture, which involves de-differentiating plant cells to form plant "stem cells". In this experiment, students will establish cell cultures of African violets from leaves. Plant growth regulators will then be used to encourage root growth, eventually producing a mature plant. African violets are available separately.
