Beginning with the initial culture, grown on slices of bread, students observe the development of mold, then use the included dichotomous key to identify the types of mold that appear, as well as compare their growth rates and morphological characteristics.
The kit includes demonstration plate cultures of Aspergillus niger, Mucor heimalis, Penicillium notatum, and Rhizopus stolonifer; teacher’s guide; and student copymaster with dichotomous key and additional suggested activities.
