Safe Application of Immunological Deficiency Diagnostic Technique
- Safety first: Students do not handle any human body fluids
- Teach your students analysis methods used in labs every day
- Time required: ~120 minutes
Students use the ELISA method and simulated blood serum to determine the HIV status of four individuals, applying the actual testing procedure used to detect AIDS antibodies in blood with materials that are completely safe.
The simulated blood serum uses no human substances, eliminating any health risks. For a safe but realistic experience, the activities utilize real antigens and antibodies isolated from non-human sources.
