Frequently Asked Questions

Get the information you need to make the most out of your Science Olympiad training with Ward's Science Olympiad Kits.

Safety

How can I ensure students' safety when working with chemicals?

When working with chemicals for any event, always perform experiments in your school chemistry lab, following proper lab safety procedures taught in your chemistry classroom. Always wear proper personal protection equipment, including safety goggles, gloves, and apron. For more information about Science Olympiad eye protection requirements, visit http://soinc.org/eye_protection.

Do you offer goggles that meet Science Olympiad regulations?

Yes, we do. Visit our Science Olympiad Eye Protection page for more information and to order goggles that meet Science Olympiad Eye Protection Policies #1-5.

Kit Contents

Where can I find the rules for my event?

The Science Olympiad Rules Manuals for Division B and C are posted free online as PDFs on the Science Olympiad website. Please visit www.soinc.org for your copy!

My Crime Busters/Forensics kit did not come with labware/chemicals. Why aren't these materials included?

Labware and chemical kits for the Crime Busters and Forensics events are sold separately. Labware and Chemical kits are listed separately on the product pages for those events. You must add both the labware kits and chemical kit to your shopping cart to ensure you receive all required materials for these events.

How many uses can I get out of each kit?

The number of uses varies by kit and event, however many of our kits contain materials that can be used by multiple students or re-used multiple times to help you get the most out of your materials. Our chemical kits include enough samples to perform several tests with one kit. Exact quantities of materials in each kit can be found on the individual product pages.

What is included in each kit?

All kits come unassembled and include raw materials for completion of a single event. Kits contain a printed copy of rules and basic instructions or building templates. Please see the individual product pages for the complete list of contents in each kit.

Are instructions included?

Kits contain a printed copy of rules and basic instructions for getting started--however, it's up to teams to determine the best use for their kit materials to complete the event in the way they see fit. Creativity, problem solving, and teamwork are what Science Olympiad is all about!

The kit that I received contained a copy of the old rules. What should I do?

The kit description on the web says that it includes a building template, however one was not included in my kit. What should I do?

Rules

Can you provide me with the rules for my event?

All Ward's Science Olympiad kits include a printed copy of the rules for that event. Complete Rules Manuals are also supplied to team coaches by their Science Olympiad State Director at the beginning of the year, and can also be purchased via Science Olympiad National Headquarters at www.soinc.org. Due to Science Olympiad regulations, we are unable to provide copies of rules electronically.

Do Ward's Science Olympiad Kits match rules and regulations for my state-specific event?

Ward's Science provides kits aligned to all National event rules each year. We do not offer kits to match alternate state-specific events. If you have questions about materials for your state-specific event, please contact your Science Olympiad State Director for further information.

Do Ward's Science Olympiad Kits meet rules and regulations for National Events?

Yes. All Ward's Science Olympiad Kits have been developed to match all rules and regulations for National Events. Kits have been evaluated and approved by the Science Olympiad Rules Committee events chairperson for each event.
