I would not recommend this product. The first shipment of 300 Arabidopsis seeds only yielded four germinated seeds which quickly died. I followed the cold snap directions and growing instructions per the Ward's teacher guide. The company graciously send me another 300 seeds. I cold snapped them for 72 hours and then planted each seed individually using forceps which was incredibly time consuming. This yielded a much higher germination rate and I now have 50 plants. I have them under the recommended growth conditions but after four weeks the plants are still very small. My students and I have put in so much work to grow these plants and I am not confident that we can get through the flowering and cross pollination steps in a timely manner. I plan on using Wisconsin Fast Plants from another company in order to perform the Artificial Selection lab requirements for AP Biology.

Thank you for your feedback. Your review on the Arabidopsis seeds lead us to do some further investigation with our vendor. While the vendor does not supply an expiration date on the seeds, they do supply a date when the seeds were packaged. We did find some seeds in stock that were older then we would have liked to supply in a kit. Now that we know the “code” is truly a packaged on date, this will help us to ensure only the freshest of seeds are being supplied to our customers. Thank you again for your feedback.

In this investigation, students to simulate the process of natural selection, differential reproduction, and the underlying process of evolution to explore how external factors impact the prevalence of a phenotype in the next generation. Using a population of fast-growing plants, students will artificially select one or more phenotypes to determine whether they can successfully change the prevalence of that phenotype in the next generation of plants. Then they’ll apply statistical analyses to evaluate the probability that their conclusion will be accurate.
