Investigate and experiment with 7 functioning Wheel & Axle and Inclined Plane models designed to demonstrate science and technology concepts.
Students can determine, through investigation, if the machine multiplies the force it applies to the resistance (load), if the machine changes the direction of the force they apply, and more. Build 7 different real-world models, one at a time. Set includes building instructions for each model with real-life photo and key facts. Models demonstrate how a wheel turns an axle, how an axle turns a wheel, inclined plane, screw, and wedge. 194 pieces support 3 students working in a team; grades 3-5.
The class pack comes with a free teachers guide. Class pack includes 8 individual Intro to Simple Machines: Wheels/Axles & Inclined Planes sets. Comes with Teacher's Guide which is also available as a standalone product.
The Teacher's Guide was designed as a resource for educators, this guide provides a glossary of key terms and definitions, includes an overview of the concepts associated with wheels, axles and inclined planes, identifies student objectives for each unit, and offers plans and scripts to successfully present each Simple Machine model and it's associated activities. Most of the units can be completed in 30-45 minutes. There are also extension activities that can be used to explore the concepts more deeply.
