Mixed Amoebae

Specially Prepared “Real-Life” Combinations
The world is teeming with a wide variety of microlife, making studying samples of pond water complicated especially for the beginning student. To lessen the confusion, WARD’S has prepared different culture mixes that reflect protist combinations that occur in the real world, yet eliminates the hundreds of other life-forms found in a collected sample. Comes with a dichotomous key and either the Working with Algae or the Working with Protozoa manual. Supplied in a single jar.

Our choice of three from the following: Actinosphaerium, Amoeba, Arcella, Centropyxis, and Difflugia.

Investigating Transpiration Lab Activity

Investigating Transpiration Lab Activity

Students use several techniques to investigate the location, methods, and mechanisms of transpiration in plants. Students first determine the source of water loss and confirm their findings with a qualitative chemical test. Then they prepare microscope slides of xylem in stem tissue, and prepare a leaf imprint using an innovative method that vividly highlights stomate structures. Finally, using WARD’S specially-designed potometer and supplied materials, students subject bean seedlings to varying environmental conditions to determine how transpiration is affected. You’ll get enough materials for eight setups, a teacher’s guide, and student copymaster.
