Coiled-coil domain-containing protein 141 (CCDC141), also known as CAMDI, is a recently identified disrupted in schizophrenia 1 (DISC1)-binding protein that also associates with myosin II. CCDC141 preferentially associates with phosphomyosin II and causes an accumulation of phosphomyosin II at the centrosome in a DISC1-dependent manner. Knockdown of CCDC141 expression by RNAi led to severely impaired radial migration with disoriented chromosomes, suggesting that CCDC141 is required for radial migration through DISC1 and myosin II-mediated centrosome positioning during neuronal development.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the main inhibitory transmitter by increasing a Cl-conductance that inhibits neuronal firing in the central nervous system. It has been shown to activate both ionotropic (GABAA) and metabotropic (GABAB) receptors as well as a third class of receptors called GABAC. GABARAP (GABAA receptor-associated protein) links GABAA receptors to the cytoskeleton and may play a role in intracellular transport of GABAA receptors and its interaction with the cytoskeleton. GABARAP belongs to the MAP1 or ATG8 like family and recent studies show that MAPK15/ERK8 is acting through interaction with ATG8 family proteins to regulate autophagy.

ATP11B is a widely expressed integral membrane ATPase and is thought to drive the transport of phospholipids across membranes. It has been suggested that ATP11B is hormonally regulated and plays a role in the subnuclear trafficking of transcription factors with RING motifs. While the exact molecule ATP11B transports is unknown, increased mRNA expression of the homologous ATP11A has been observed in cells resistant to anti-cancer drugs such as farnesyltransferase inhibitors (FTIs), suggesting that ATP11B may also play a role in cell survival under harsh conditions.

Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein which comprises about one-half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones and plays a role in stabilizing extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin which has an N-terminal peptide that is removed before the nascent protein is released from the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The resulting product, proalbumin, is in turn cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to produce the secreted albumin. At least two isoforms of Albumin are known to exist.

CCP110 is a centrosomal protein required for the centrosome to function as a microtubule organizing center and plays an essential role in centrosome duplication. It is a target of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs); disruption of CCP110 phosphorylation leads to unscheduled centrosome separation and polyploidy. CCP110 is also a target of SCF (Cyclin F) ubiquitin ligase complex, leading to its degradation, suggesting that this complex controls centrosome homeostasis and mitotic fidelity through CCP110 degradation. The centriolar kinesin Kif24 also interacts with CP110 and remodel microtubules and regulate ciliogenesis.

It is involved in the preservation of cellular nutrients under starvation conditions as well as the normal turnover of cytosolic components (1,2). ATG4D, also known as AUTL4, is one of four mammalian orthologs of the yeast ATG4 protein; all four are cysteine proteases (3). ATG4 is required for ATG8 conjugation to phosphatidylethanolamine on autophagosomal membranes. In mammals, each ATG4 homolog shows a selective preference for the ATG8 homologs (4).

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is an autosomal recessive genodermatosis associated with a high risk of skin cancers resulting from a high susceptibility to infection by specific human papillomaviruses. Mutations in two homologous genes EVER1 and EVER2 cause the majority of EV cases. These two proteins form a complex and interact with the zinc transporter ZnT-1 in the endoplasmic reticulum. Cells lacking EVER2 accumulated higher levels of zinc in the nucleolus and nucleus compare to those cells with and intact EVER2 gene, indicating that one role of EVER2 is to regulate the intracellular distribution of zinc.

The exosome is involved in a multitude of cellular RNA processing and degradation events. DIS3, also known as exosome complex exonuclease RRP44, is a ribonuclease that acts directly in the processing, turnover, and surveillance of a large number of distinct RNA species. DIS3 localizes to both the cytoplasm and the nucleus and contains one PINc domain. It is widely expressed with highest expression in testis and is required for processing of 7S pre-RNA into a mature nuclear complex and, ultimately, for proper mitotic progression. Abnormal expression levels of DIS3 may be associated with colon cancer, suggesting a role for DIS3 in tumorigenesis.

DOPA decarboxylase (DDC) belongs to the group II decarboxylase family of proteins (1). It is an important protein in the catecholamine biosynthesis pathway. DDC catalyzes the second reaction in the biosynthesis of catecholamines, trace amines and serotonin (1,2). It can form a homodimer and is expressed in the central nervous system (2). DDC can be used as markers for dopaminergic, noradrenergic and serotonergic neurons in a variety of applications including depression, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, neuroendocrine tumors and drug abuse (3,4). Defects in DDC gene may cause the autosomal recessive disorder AADC deficiency (4).
