New York State Regents Package #3: Constructing and Analyzing an Asteroid’s Elliptical Orbit Package
The New York State Regents Examination in Physical Setting/Earth Science (Part D) consists of two components: a laboratory performance test and a written test. The performance test features three different stations of hands-on activities. Using the New York State Education Department guidelines for the 2009 Performance Test (Part D), Ward’s created cost-effective, convenient kits with everything you need to prepare for administering the test at each station. Students can create and examine the elliptical orbit of asteroids with Ward’s Station #3 Kit including a spool of cotton string, six sheets of cardboard, box of 100 push pins, six plastic storage boxes, six metric rulers, and six calculators — enough materials for six station setups. Call 800-962-2660 for a more detailed list of contents.

CPEP History and Fate of the Universe Charts
This colorful, graphically rich chart illustrates and summarizes what is now known about the history and fate of the universe. Developed by scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) in collaboration with the Contemporary Physics Education Project (CPEP) and George Smoot, Nobel prize winner for 2006, the chart is crammed with information covering a broad range of cosmological topics. The centerpiece is an evolutionary timeline that takes viewers from 10-44 seconds, when the universe was much smaller than a proton, to the current era, about 14 billion years later, when the visible universe contains 4 x 1011 billion galaxies. Side panels provide short discussions on the birth, inflation and expansion of the universe, the cosmic microwave background and redshifts of distant supernovas.
