Besides the well-documented ecological harm that fossil fuels inflict, the additional drawback is their scarcity. As we continue to deplete our fossil fuels, questions loom about what will we use in their place to heat our homes, power our vehicles, and light our cities. This program studies the problem of energy resource depletion and explores potential solutions appearing around the world. Graphically illustrating the “deadlines” at which coal, oil, and natural gas supplies are expected to vanish, the program also examines advances in wind, geothermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, and solar power technologies. The pros and cons of each alternative energy are presented along with real-world examples from Australia, England, Kenya, and other countries are shown. Duration: 24 minutes.
