In the field, sifting through soil can be necessary. For small items, a sifter with very small openings may be required. This sifter has openings of 2 mm (2000 µm), which is equivalent to US mesh size 10.

Large clogs of dirt should be broken up into smaller pieces before sifting. The built-in wooden handles provide an easy grip for one person to shake while sifting. The large durable wooden frame is 61×40.6×7.6 cm (24×16×3").
