Behind the Innovation with BIO
When Avantor first partnered with the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), the goal was simple: give BIO members – many without revenue and relying on venture capital – affordable access to the products and services needed to advance their research.
The solution was a collective buying program. BIO members gained access to millions of products essential to running research – from supplies to chemicals and cleanroom goods to capital equipment – at prices once reserved for the world's largest pharmaceutical companies.
More than 20 years later, Avantor and BIO have renewed their BIO Business Solutions contract for an additional five years.
"We provide BIO and affiliate members access to our full portfolio and cost advantages that help them reach the next inflection point, such as the next investment round or a New Drug Application (NDA) filing,” said Charles McWilliams, Vice President, Strategic Alliances and West Area Sales, who oversees Avantor’s BIO Business Solutions program. “This ensures they can stretch every research dollar and focus on discovery."
Thousands of BIO members and affiliates now participate in the program, most at the preclinical or early clinical stage. The contract spans Avantor’s entire product and service portfolio. “We start with products and services that support R&D in the lab,” McWilliams said. “But members also benefit from our manufacturing and production solutions through this partnership.”
The Avantor-BIO partnership provides long-term certainty: companies know they can access critical supplies at stable prices. “That peace of mind is invaluable to biotech innovators,” McWilliams added.
Avantor also works to make ordering seamless. “We provide dedicated customer service for BIO members,” McWilliams said. “At the same time, we continue to invest in distribution solutions that speed fulfillment and reduce waste in packaging.”
