Specially Prepared “Real-Life” Combinations
The world is teeming with a wide variety of microlife, making studying samples of pond water complicated especially for the beginning student. To lessen the confusion, WARD’S has prepared different culture mixes that reflect protist combinations that occur in the real world, yet eliminates the hundreds of other life-forms found in a collected sample. Comes with a dichotomous key and either the Working with Algae or the Working with Protozoa manual. Supplied in a single jar.

Contents: Amphidinium, Cyclotella and Thalassiosira.

Marine. Macroalga; pink, coral-like appearance. Produces internal frame from calcium deposits. Collected.

Characterized by reddish plastids (rhodoplasts).

Selaginella lepidophylla. Find out how plants survive desert conditions; this plant’s curled, dried, gray-brown fronds unfurl and turn green when placed in water. It is found in desert regions of the South and Southwest United States, and Central America. It is supplied in a plastic bag and comes with care instructions. Size: approximately 3".

Nymphoides aquatica. Dicot. The green tubercles that grow from this unique plant’s short roots store nutrients and look like bananas, giving the plant its common name. It is a floating plant that grows best in shallow water. It is easily reproduced from cuttings. Size: 4–6". Package of six.

Vallisneria spiralis. Monocot. This fast-growing bottom-rooted plant has elongated, twisted green leaves with five parallel longitudinal veins. It grows well mixed with other plants. Size: 6–8". Package of 50.

Paramecium aurelia is the smallest species of Paramecium we offer. Paramecium aurelia is characterized by cilia, which it uses for locomotion and feeing. Contains a macronucleus and two micronuclei. Grows in Dilute Alfalfa Medium (Hay Medium).
