Re-create Lab Test Used to Determine Pregnancy
- Students' don't handle any human body fluids
- Teach your students the basics behind a common lab assay
- Time Required: ~120 minutes
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG), produced during pregnancy, is the hormone detected by the ELISA method in standard lab testing, as well as home pregnancy tests. The lab activity kit includes simulated urine, allowing students to conduct the ELISA test without handling actual body fluids, eliminating any health risks.
For a safe but realistic experience, the activities utilize real antigens and antibodies isolated from non-human sources; students don’t handle any human body fluids.
