An excellent demonstration of how a real seismograph records the shock waves associated with earthquakes and other disturbances.
The recorder is attached to a weight suspended from a support. The support moves with fine vibrations while the recorder remains stationary. Vibrations are recorded on a strip of paper and vary with the amount of vibration in the table on which the model is mounted.
