In this two-part lab, students first describe the physical properties of two different shaped blocks of seven types of wood. They then perform two experiments, heating wood in the absence and presence of oxygen. The outcome of these experiments will stimulate great discussions in your classroom. Includes materials for eight student groups — instructions, eight #4 one hole stoppers, 500 wood splints, eight test tubes, crucible tongs, set of 14 wood samples, eight 30mL low form crucibles. Grades 9–12.
