Developed in partnership with educator Jeffrey Wetherhold, this motorized toy airplane helps exhibit properties of tension, weight, speed, and circular motion in this engaging lab. Tethered to the ceiling with two C clamps, the airplane, attached to by a string, moves in uniform horizontal turns. Combining ideals of physics and math, students use Newton's Second Law of Motion in addition to algebra and trigonometry to derive their own equation for predicting the tension of the string.
