| Make Safe Daytime Observations of Solar Sunspots, Planetary Transits, and Eclipses |
This instrument enables daytime astronomy, allowing sun observations by groups of students. The ingenious design allows light from the sun to pass though a glass lens mounted at the end of a plastic tube, and project onto an aluminum-mounted mirror at the back end of the Solarscope. A large image is reflected back onto an inside wall of the instrument for safe viewing. A protractor grid is printed on one side; together with the included “plumb line” system, it is possible to optimize the alignment with the sun. It includes a workbook for making measurements such as Earth and sun rotational speeds; orbit ellipticity; solar and local noon; latitude; determining the astronomical unit; writing the Time’s Equation; day duration; and Earth’s polar axis inclination. It also includes a measurement screen and user’s manual. The housing is made of durable corrugated cardboard and requires assembly. Size assembled: 18 1/2″L x 14 1/2″W x 23 5/8″H.
