The slotted openings allow thorough penetration of processing solutions and stains, but the container itself is constructed of rugged plastic that is resistant to most solvents and decalcifying solutions. The spring-action latch holds the lid securely closed, preventing specimen loss, and the plastic lid detaches for easy disposal before embedding.
