The story focuses on the efforts of a team of scientists at the University of Oklahoma to set up and use high resolution Doppler radar data to forecast severe thunderstorms in real time. Using the super computing grid at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the team believes it can achieve an unprecedented degree of accuracy and lead time. But our story goes far beyond the computer lab. We’ll accompany tornado chasers as they race across the state to get in position to witness the storms themselves. The DVD also contains materials and activities for educators, a link to the NOVA website, and described video for the visually impaired. Closed-captioned. Duration: 60 minutes.
