| Track the Effects of Concentration on the Rate of Diffusion in Real-Time |
Using the CBL 2 or LabPro, conductivity probe, and gas pressure sensor, students will be able to acquire real-time data and determine the rate of diffusion as it relates to concentration. Students will also determine the isotonic sugar concentration in relation to the naturally-occurring sugar in a potato by using data they generate in a unique investigation. In a final exercise, students will learn about water potential by examining a change in potato cores soaked in various concentrations of sugar solutions. The lab requires one LabPro and computer with Logger Pro software or CBL 2 with TI-83 Plus graphing calculator, as well as one conductivity probe and gas pressure sensor per lab group.
