Mitosis and Meiosis Demystified CD-ROM |
| Provide Access to Comprehensive Coverage of the Processes and Consequences of Cell Division |
|
The basic principles of meiosis and mitosis are demonstrated first in a step-by-step fashion using models made of familiar objects to simulate cells and chromosomes, then they are shown as diagrams, and finally, students can interactively manipulate time-lapsed 3-D microvideos of chromosomes undergoing each process. In addition, corresponding animations and images from living cells showing the particular stage in the time lapse process are presented simultaneously. Students can also study how the cell cycle and cell differentiation is controlled or perform a simulated fruit fly cross to understand the relationship between meiosis and genetics. The program also includes a diagnostic test that allows students to study their wrong answers by returning to the appropriate section of the program.System RequirementsMac: PowerPC, System 7.6 to OS X (Classic), 32MB RAMWindows: Pentium processor, Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, 32MB RAM
