| Take a Forensic Science Course, Learn Investigative Skills, and Solve a Crime Without Leaving Your Seat |
This cross-curriculum course was developed for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) and incorporates multimedia, interactive computer exercises, a workbook, and creative writing activities to stimulate critical thinking. Each of the ten modules begins with a lecture by Marilyn Miller, Professor of Forensic Science at New Haven University, as she explains how to search for and analyze crime scene evidence. Following each lecture, students have the opportunity to apply the methods they have just learned to real-life exercises. In addition, the software presents case files of real serial killers and how the evidence analysis technique presented in each module helped to convict them. Once students have mastered the skills necessary to investigate a crime, they will take on the role of a forensic investigator and attempt to solve a true-to-life crime on the computer. At the end of the investigation, students can build their college portfolio by sending their work to Duke TIP to receive a certificate of completion.
