Ingenious System for Capturing Insects |
Designed by WARD’S own staff entomologist, this trap is an ideal way to sample populations of insects that are not commonly attracted to light. To target specific species, use pheromones, or you can perform multi-species sampling by using various other types of bait. The trap is a 12″ diameter, 42″ long nylon mesh cylinder reinforced by muslin where it is held open at both ends by metal support rings. When you want to use it, hang it from a tree branch with the metal fitting attached to a weatherproof plastic top, place the bait (not included) on the plastic tray at the bottom, and wait for your insects to come to you. Insects attracted to the bait, fly up into the cylinder and are contained within the mesh. Simply unzip the side of the trap to introduce collection containers for the insects. You may also regulate the size of the insects you catch by altering the length of the brass chains connecting the bait tray to the trap, which in turn adjusts the width of the opening.
