Demonstrating Air Pollution Lab Activity |
Pollution research tends to focus on plants because they are usually more sensitive than people. In this activity, students will discover how sulfur dioxide (the most common air pollutant) affects the growth of squash and marigold seeds. These are included because each type of plant reacts differently to sulfur dioxide poisoning and they are both easily grown. The effects will be evident in approximately one week and are sure to stimulate discussion. The kit includes enough materials to perform the exercise several times, instructions, and a student copymaster.
