Death of a River: Water Pollution Lab Activity |
Become Waste Managers of a River System |
This lab activity begins with a thorough introduction to water pollution followed by a class discussion of its causes and effects, both of which are visually reinforced with 35 mm slides and overhead transparencies. Once students have a firm grasp of the principles of water pollution, they become waste managers of their own river system, making observations about the health of the system. They will measure the amount of dissolved oxygen in water, determine the amount of bacteria present, and investigate two types of water treatment. All chemicals, with collection bottles and droppers, and support materials are included for a high school classroom investigation.
