Identification of Chemical Reactions Lab Activity
Involves Deductive Reasoning When Analyzing Unknowns
Identification of Chemical Reactions Lab Activity

Students learn to identify four types of chemical reactions using a standard lab procedure. Seven unknown solutions are mixed into any of 21 possible combinations and analyzed for color change, generation of precipitates or gas, and exothermic reactions. The properties exhibited in some reactions are used to predict the outcomes of others. More advanced students may also be asked to write the possible chemical equation of some reactions. It includes an instruction manual and enough materials for 50 students.
