WARD’S Exploring Convection Currents Lab Activity |
| Experiment with Circulation in Air and Water |
Simple materials in a convenient lab activity make it easy for students to understand the concept of convection and relate it to the circulation patterns in our atmosphere and oceans. Ocean density currents are influenced by temperature and by salinity. By mixing warm and cold water, or salt water and fresh water, which are dyed for visibility, students can easily see convection currents form. Students can also model the development of wind due to convection. It comes with all necessary materials for five setups, a teacher’s guide, and student copymasters.
