WARD’S Electricity and Work Lab Activity |
| Investigate the Conversion of Electrical Energy into Mechanical Energy |
Students examine the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical energy using a simple DC motor to lift a measured load, and then they reverse this process using the motor as a generator to power two lights. The winch motor comes with leads, a winch drum, and line already in place. Washers make a variable load for the winch and a resistance wire varies the speed as students time the load over a measured distance. Manuals detail the gathering of data and illustrate the calculations. You’ll also receive additional notes for the teacher and enough materials for five setups. A 1.5 V battery, ammeter (0–3 A), and stand, required, are available separately. A bicycle wheel or drill motor is also required to use the generator.
